Ink Blending + Partial Die-cutting

Hello, hello! Has anyone started their Christmas shopping yet? My husband and I have been hosting some special guests for a couple of weeks now (in other words, I have not been crafting much), and I really appreciate doing holiday shopping with great tips and company! This will be our first ever Christmas celebration in the new home and it’s so exciting!

While I was not ready to let my mojo – which rarely visits me nowadays – go to waste, I decided to take out my craft supply and got my guests to get their fingers inky. So I went crazy stamping the cute critters from Carnival Cupcakes and Ella & Friends, both by Mama Elephant, on some Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80lb scrap. I used VersaFine Onyx Black and coloured them in with Copic Markers. I fussy cut the critters with a pair of general purpose scissors. It must had been over fifty of them because I could not feel my fingers after! On another note, I have heard really good reviews about the Precision Scissors by EK Tools – feel free to share your experience down below.

A dear crafty friend recently sent me the Flower Circles Die by Waffle Flower and I thought the flower die in the set would make the perfect shape for a Christmas ornament. Again I used Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80lb, ran it through my Sizzix Big Shot and partial die-cut it so I was left with one petal. I punched a hole through the petal, which I would later put a twine through it. I also die-cut extra circles in red card stocks which I later glued to the back of my ornament for aesthetic purposes. Next, I blended some distress inks to form the skies on the tags, using a combination of Shaded Lilac, Mowed Lawn, Evergreen Bough and Black Soot. For some added interests, I sprinkled some water on the background and dabbed off the excess with a clean cloth. I also die-cut some snowland using Landscape Trio by Mama Elephant to ground my critters.

I then assembled my ornament, popping the critters up with some double-sided foam tape. I drew some snow in the sky using a white gel pen and added dimensions to the critters using Glossy Accents by Ranger. For the finishing touch, I simply adhered clear rhinestones on to the ribbons created using the Dainty Bow Die by Mama Elephant. Finally, I tied a twine around the punched hole and my ornaments are ready to go up on the Christmas tree! These can also be used as gift tags.
