Ink Smooshing
Hello, hello! Today I will be sharing with you a fairly simple holiday card. All you need is some distress inks, a small piece of acetate sheet, die-cuts and embellishments and you are good to go!
[Supplies are linked at the bottom of the post.]
My inspiration for this card is a one-line image, so I decided to use some traditional Christmas colours for that festive touch: Mowed Lawn, Fired Brick and (not-so-traditional) Black Soot to tie them together. I swiped the ink pads directly on a homemade ink palette* and watered them down to a desired shade of colour. Then, using a scrap acetate sheet, I picked up one colour at a time and smooshed it on a watercolour card stock. The fun part about ink smooshing is that you have control over where you want the colours to be yet the result looks very natural. To get a better blending effect, you will want to smoosh the colours while they are slightly wet on the card stock.
* I created my own ink palette by simply laminating a printer paper. The white surface allows for excellent colour accuracy while the smooth surface makes cleaning easy-breezy.
After the background was dry, I adhered the bunny die-cuts using double-sided foam tapes for added dimensions. I also dressed up my bunnies with rhinestones as their eyes and little twine bows on their necks in coordinating colours. I also hand-lettered the sentiment “Hoppy Holiday” on a piece of paper cut into the shape of a banner and popped it up with foam tapes. Finally, I embellished the card with snowflake and star sequins for that winter Christmas sparkle. I got the sequins from a local dollar store but I will link up some similar products if you are interested.
Thank you for stopping by and see you soon!
Hugs, Michelle
